Mekong Community Center: Empowering Minds, Enriching Lives

Mekong Community Center, a nonprofit organization founded in 1989, stands as a beacon of hope and support for America’s largest Vietnamese community in Santa Clara County. As the nation’s pioneering Vietnamese community center, our mission has remained unwavering: to provide vital outpatient mental health services, guiding clients and their families on their journey to embracing everyday life and realizing their true potential.

In 2020, we embarked on a transformative path, introducing our Wellness Center, extending its reach to all Asian/Pacific Islander subgroups in Santa Clara County. Rooted in the belief that individuals hold the power to shape their health destinies, the Wellness Center serves as a platform for learning, sharing life experiences, and improving the quality of both physical and mental well-being. At Mekong, we embrace diversity, welcoming all Asians regardless of age, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

Located in San Jose, California, our center is strategically placed in the heart of the United States’ largest Vietnamese community. With over 180,000 Vietnamese residents, accounting for nearly 11% of San Jose’s population, our linguistically and culturally sensitive behavioral health services address the unique challenges faced by individuals of Vietnamese, Southeast Asian, and other Asian/Pacific Islander backgrounds.

Our comprehensive services encompass crisis intervention, individual and group therapy, rehabilitation counseling, case management, and psychiatric medication support. The latest addition to our offerings is the Wellness Center, designed to enhance access to culturally sensitive prevention and early intervention behavioral health services, outreach, education, health, and wellness groups, and workshops, catering to underserved Asian/Pacific Islander ethnic communities in Santa Clara County. Our dedicated team comprises bilingual and bicultural Vietnamese and Asian-Americans, who not only understand the cultural stigmas surrounding mental health but also empathize with the challenges our clients face. This team includes psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, case managers, and peer support staff.
